Unthinkable (books on ledge)
Unthinkable – the culture and politics of getting innovation wrong

Unthinkable is a book published while I was working at innovation consulting company Fluxx. It covers the realities of large companies trying to develop completely new products, usually with disastrous results, and explains how to do it better.

The book first came out in 2015. It’s still available on Amazon, or you can link through to some of the chapters below. I’d love to hear any feedback.

What others are saying about the book

Tom captures exactly what it’s really like to try and do new things in a big company. There’s no management text book waffle here, just real lessons from the school of hard knocks, and genuinely useful advice for leaders brave enough to look for a new way”

Rupert Howell, Founder of HHCL and Director of Transformation at Trinity Mirror

“Simply one of the most concise, common sense and useful books on the subject I’ve seen in ages. If you are a business leader and only read one book on innovation, this has to be it”

Dominic Vallely, Former Deputy Controller of BBC2 and Founder of The Giving Lab

“Read this if you like to be challenged. Read this if you don’t like the hype about innovation. Read this if you want some hard-won lessons and plain-spoken explanations from someone who has worked at the sharp end of innovation and business”

Antony Mayfield, Founder of Brilliant Noise
